wide angle converter on Sony kit lens?

Has anyone tried a wide angle converter on the kit lens? At that place are a number of Canon, Olympus and others bachelor, some at low prices.

Just wondering if any that don't accept too much agin bear on on the IQ? Reason I ask is that I need the OSS; getting old is the pits. Not something I would apply much, but occasionally I would like a bit wider.

Thank you

Re: wide bending converter on Sony kit lens?

Well given the excellent experience I've had with my old Sony DH1758 teleextender on my 55-210mm lens, I decided it might be worth pulling out the one-time DH0758 wide angle converter that I also had lying effectually in my closet and try it with the 16mm or 18-55mm lenses.

Alas, something I had forgotten near was that the back end of the teleconverter really protrudes beyond the lens threads, since it was originally designed to adapt to a P&S camera via a lens tube. When using with simply a footstep-ring, there was no way to become it to attach to either the 16mm or 18-55mm lens every bit the back drinking glass would touch the lens cease glass earlier the threading could match up.

I'm not certain if some of the other broad angle adapters y'all can find out there might non have a protruding back glass...if you find ane, it might work. Only beware that at least a few wide bending adapters I know of take the same type of protruding dorsum glass expanse.

Re: broad bending converter on Sony kit lens?

Well it converts it to fisheye... but it appears to be designed specifically for the NEX kit lens. I saw this product a few months back when searching for a used 16mm pancake.

I don't own it so I can't tell you how well it works. Don't forget though that photos can always be de-fished.

Re: broad angle converter on Sony kit lens?

I have one lying around for my Nikon lenses before I converted to the NEX system. The thread was 52 so I just bought a inexpensive converter from ebay to use it for the NEX kit lens which is a 49. Mine is a 0.40x broad angle converter plus a macro. With the wide angle fastened yous will get some vignetting at 18mm. For me motion picture quality is ok. Sometimes, photos tend to be soft effectually the edges nonetheless I was yet able to get some good shots out of information technology. Slap-up for a inexpensive selection but of course the way to become is getting a real wide bending lens. The macro lens was a bonus, I got some decent macro shots out of it. I remember it'south more of a fun lens than really a serious type of a lens. All in all, I'm satisfied with it especially at present that I've used this lens on both the Nikon and NEX system. By the way, to reply your question, I don't think it impacts the OSS IQ at all.
